The Bergamo-based company works in the field of processing and laying marble, stone and granite. Camillo Remuzzi, in 1907, on the initiative of and encouraged by his son Giuseppe, who was skilled in the field, since he was already an employee of an important company in Bergamo Alta, at the age of 47 agreed to open up shop, with few workers and his son. In the early years of the business, a nephew of Camillo, Gianni Remuzzi, was a particularly successful sculptor, and later also worked as a teacher for several years at the Accademia Carrara of Bergamo. In 1937 Camillo died, and in the same period Giuseppe’s sons started working for the company: Enrico and Emilio were about 14 years old. Since the beginning of the 70s the current managers, Camillo, Angelo, Claudio and Ezio (4th generation) started working for the company. The company in more than a hundred years old. Its workforce has been around 30 to 40 workers and it is located in an area of about 6,000 square meters of which 2,500 are its production workshop. In the first period its contract work was mainly for sacred art, but then expanded to the construction of important buildings (banks and institutions). After World War II the market expanded to civil and industrial constructions. Currently, its production includes everything that involves the use and processing of natural stones.

Taken from an article on the company’s business:

From noble materials like marble and stone, we make facades and monuments, but also individual precious items, such as the liturgical poles of a church and individual works of art. Those who are familiar with the materials and with their processing, such as the Remuzzi, know how to choose and recommend, so that the idea, artistic or architectural, can materialize through surfaces of noble strength, or of simple naturalness. There are many facades and monuments in this city that are imprinted by the work of the Remuzzi family; and many are around the world, from Milan to Bari, from France to Asia. “Bergamo city of stone – wrote Attilio Pizzigoni – as shown by its walls, the massive presence of Santa Maria Maggiore and the high tower of the Gambito … a city of stone, gray and dark as described by Gianandrea Gavazzeni…” The baptistery of the Cathedral of Bergamo, a small marble octagonal temple embellished by the medieval portal and the upper openings shielded by small columns, discretely approaches the Cathedral which, although altered in later centuries, still bears visible signs of its Renaissance origins. It was built in the mid 9th century, but its marble parts were completed at the end of the century, when it was moved from the courtyard of the Canonici to its present location, at the square in front of the Cathedral. This work was directed by Virgilio Muzio, father of the more famous Giovanni and employed Camillo Remuzzi, a marble worker from an important company of the time. After completing this project, he decided to become independent and founded his own company to process stones and marbles: that’s how a story began like ones that in Italy have occurred dozens, hundreds of times. A founder who, with courage and dedication, created an enterprise that lasted over time. In 2007, REMUZZI MARMI celebrated it’s first centenary, thanks to the work of several generations, in a tradition which has been interpreted by the propensities and the inspiration of each of them. Because when you say “company” you immediately think about manufacturing and commercial activities: but when you say “stoneworking” the picture becomes more complex and peculiar individual skills come into play. Quoting Attilio Pizzigoni again: “In the Remuzzi workshop artists and sculptors worked closely alongside engineers, technicians and installers, decorators and workers, discussing and finding the best solutions together with the architects and builders.” And still today there is that multiplicity of players, that pooled their art and technology, creativity and research. And if, in the first half of the century, the sculptor Gianni Remuzzi stood out, and in Bergamo set up a real school, today the family-run company, now at its fourth generation, run by the Remuzzi brothers, continues to create significant works of art. Among the most important are the new fountain of San Pellegrino and the sculptures of the Cathedral of Tortona, the liturgical poles of the new Catholic Church of Hong Kong and the altar, the flooring, the restoration of the Cathedral of Bergamo.
