BERBENNO STONE
Berbenno stone is quarried only in the Valle Imagna area, at Berbenno and Ponte Giurino, from Jurassic limestone (formed in the Upper Norian, between 204 and 215 million years ago) in the formation of the Shales of Riva di Solto.
The formation surfaces in Lombardy along a East-West range from Lake Lugano to Lake Iseo. The formation consists of alternating layers of shales, marls and limestones, consolidated sediments of an ancient tropical gulf, featuring enclosed basins and lagoons
